TCO APPROACH

Tyres impact the running costs that represent more than 50% of TCO

TYRE IMPACT ON TCO

TCO is an estimate of all the direct and indirect costs involved in acquiring and operating a product or system over its lifetime.

* SOURCE CNR report 2022 and Michelin’s internal vecto calculation March 2022. Indicative price of 1.65€/l based on CNR's professionnal price index of gasoil in March 2022 in France without TVA.

TYRE IMPACT ON FUEL

Tyres have a strong impact on fuel consumption

* Calculations done with VECTO-3.3.8.2052, standard vehicle 4x2 & semi-trailer. Long Haul et Regional Cycles – VECTO reference load (35t in Long Haul & RR = 4.0 kg/t label A, 30t in Regional & RR=5.0 kg/t label B) May 2023.

THE MICHELIN WAYS TO REDUCE TCO

Encourage your customers to use tyres to the last millimeter*

* Last mm understood as until the minimum legal tread depth. Please refer to the minimum legal tread depth in your country.

** Internal value using VECTO calculation tool done in March 2022 in France. Calculation of savings in €/year on a fleet of 10 tractors driving 120,000km/year on Long Haul, based on VECTO tool and rolling resistance index, and indicative price of 1.65€/l based on CNR’s professional price index of gasoil in March 2022 in France without TVA. Results may vary in real life according to vehicles, distances and load.

Rolling resistance grading has a key impact on fuel consumption:

* 0.8L is the average deviation (VECTO value) measured between 2 labelling letters (B compared to C) for a new tyre. Simulation of an average saving over the life of the tyre of 0.6 liters per 100 km between a B-class tyre and a C-class tyre, for a vehicle traveling 150,000 km per year, for a fleet of 50 vehicles, with an assumed price of €1.45 per liter.

Make aware your customers about the importance of pressure

* Source: Michelin internal measurements. Fuel efficiency and CO2 emission calculations are based on VECTO tools with tyre MICHELIN 315/70 R 22.5 X® LINE™ ENERGY™ Z2 and D2 at 9b on a fully loaded truck in Long Haul application in comparison with same tyre at 7.5b, taking into account the wear and rolling resistance degradation.120,000km/year with 1.2€/l based on CNR’s professional price index of gasoil in 2019 in France without TVA. Results may vary in real life according to vehicles, distances and load.Consider also as an average on all usages, and all vehicle types, an impact around 0.3 l/100 km linked to the right pressure.

The impact on TCO

  • Michelin’s X® MULTI™ ENERGY™ is fuel efficient.

  • The TCO is lower with the X® MULTI™ ENERGY™ than with the X® MULTI™.

  • Michelin’s X® MULTI™ is better for mileage.

If you use the wrong tyre for your application, the product promise cannot be fulfilled.

That's why it's important to use the right tyre in combination with the right use, to maximise the tyre's full capabilities.
